How to Be Proactive About Baby Gut Health
By: Blond & Ambitious | March 5, 2020
Hi friends! TODAY we are going to be chatting about a brand that I have talked about before on my blog (so you know they’re the real deal) – Evivo. You can catch my first post HERE – it’s all about whether or not your baby needs a probiotic to begin with. This post is going to be chatting more about how you can be proactive about your baby’s gut health and what probiotics can do for your little one. And before we start – I just wanted to get out there: I am not a pediatrician. I’m a mama who has a background in biochem that’s done a lot of research. But that DOES NOT make me a doctor. Before starting your baby on ANYTHING – please talk to your pediatrician to see if Evivo is right for your little one. Ok. Let’s dive right into this!
The first 6 months of your baby’s life are CRITICAL for developing good gut health because it is when your baby is undergoing incredible changes and growth in their autoimmune system and metabolic development. Did you know that?! I didn’t. Your little one’s gut microbiome is going to be a key player in this process.
To recap a little bit from the Evivo website: bad bacteria found in the gut of babies has been linked to a higher risk of autoimmune and metabolic issues such as eczema, colic, diabetes, obesity and allergies (hello – because remember: those first six months are super important). You want to get your kiddo set up for LIFE – and something you can do to be proactive about their health NOW is starting them on a good probiotic. Enter: Evivo.
When more GOOD bacteria are present in their little gut, it creates a protective barrier that helps to ultimately crowd out the bad stuff. Evivo’s clinically-proven activated B. infantis helps your baby digest all the nutrients in your breastmilk. They’re the only baby probiotic to use activated B. infantis, which makes them the best on the market.
We personally use Evivo to make sure Jack has the healthiest start to life he possibly can. I have been lucky enough to be able to exclusively breastfeed him for the last 7.5 months, and with Evivo I feel confident knowing his body is absorbing all of those amazing nutrients. Now that he’s starting to eat real food, his gut is prepared with a healthy microbiome! His start to feeding wasn’t easy (he STRUGGLED with solids at first – and we have had to slowly reintroduce fruits and veggies into this diet), but it’s getting better. Learning to trust the process and not beat myself up for something out of my control has been CRITICAL in my development as a mom.
All in all, we’ve been pretty lucky in the fact that Jack is a very happy baby – he isn’t fussy or colic-y. BUT he does have severely dry skin and eczema patches. They hurt and itch and we can see they cause discomfort for our little man. We tried so many different kinds of products in the beginning – lotions, oatmeal sponge bath, milk bath, creams…and honestly, none of it really did a whole lot. We finally found a lotion that has reduced the patches by a large amount, thank goodness. In addition to using that thick eczema cream on his thighs, belly and upper arms, we started Evivo because we knew that one of the symptoms it can ease and help reduce in the future is eczema. I don’t want him to have to suffer with it his whole life! We’re so happy Evivo can help us with that.
While every baby is different, I think it’s clear that most babies could benefit with an infant probiotic. Check out Evivo’s website to see if it would be the right fit for you and your baby. I want everyone know have all the information out there to make informed decisions on how best to keep our little ones as healthy as they can be! Evivo just wants to give you another tool to get there. Ask your pediatrician if Evivo would be right for your family!
